Gents,

I know there have been many threads about sand, I've used it with wet/dry systems prior with great results. My questions is I'm going to be running a couple Eheims on my next setup, and wanted to use Pool Filter Sand. Do I need to use a Prefilter? Wouldn't a prefilter interrupt the mechanical filtration? Or should I just move up the intakes, which also would lessen the mechanical filtration. What do you do, and what do I need to look out for?

Many Thanks!!:nilly:

Just raise the intake so it's at least 3+ inches above your sand level. This is what I did to get minimal sand ingestion.

I would go a little higher than 3" if you can. I have to put mine a little higher for just the instance when i'm stirring the sand. Well, that and the sand shovel africans that are occupying my tanks.:D
