do canister filters run less eletricity then the old hang on filters, and are they more quit

Depends on the filters in which you talk about. Some canisters are very noisy and use a moderate amount of energy. Generally speaking, HOB filters will make more noise, as they don't have the option to return water without dumping the water back. As far as pump noise, eheims are some of the quietest, but most major brands of HOB filter won't create much noise by the actual parts. Energy use is somewhat mute for filters, as your heater will take generally 10-16 times as much energy as your filter.

I have 2 magnum 220's (cannister) and 2 emperor 400's (HOB). The emps work great buy are far, far more noiser the then the magnums. The all use the same amt of energy

my new marineland C-360 i cant even tell its on i want to get one more to get reed of my HOBS might i add the C-360 isn't in my stand cause drow right above doorway aka c360 to tall i can get it in but out is the problem

sorry for spelling using PS3

ive used every aquaclear filter ever.... they are far louder than my canistors i actually have a large canistor in my bedroom 5 feet from my bed and i cant even hear it running in the cabinet....and darn its not an eheim but it sure is a fluval... they do get the job done and sound great doing it!!!

My magnum 250 is as quite as my Cascade 1000. My 300gph power head is the loudest out of them all. But when you inject air into it what do you expect
