Canister filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 3 FX5's and I really like them. 2 of them work perfectly, but 1 had a problem with the impeller. I called customer service and she walked me through the process of trying to fix it myself. It was this really nice lady with a Brooklyn accent. I couldn't fix it so I just shipped it back. They have a good 3 year warranty on them and they're a good brand.

I wouls say go eheim because let's face it they are better filters. Never used an fx5 and don't plan on it. Its not that I don't like them its just that they are pricey and use much more power during use. I have a aquatop cf400uv and a aqueon 75 and I'm sure that would be fine for a 150 but I would add another hob just for over filtration. If ya got the money then go big if ya want but the low cost filters do just as good.

THE GOAT

I like the eheim range. I have a classic 2260 which is by far the best canister I've used it had a huge filter volume and very versitile. I also have a fx5 an a aquaone cf 2400 but the eheim is by far the best of them.

Eheim if you got the cash FX5 if your low on cash. Love Ehiem... but you gould get 2 FX5's for one Eheim.

You can buy 2 Aquatop cf500 uv canisters for just a little more than one fx5. I have a cf400 uv and have had no trouble with it.

I would recommend the Aquatop CF500UV 5-Stage Canister Filter with 9W UV. It's rated at 525gph. I descided to get two of these instead of a FX5 since it was double the filtration with the UV as an added bonus. Company has been great and they have great products. My water has never been clearer.
