Canister filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I find it hard to pick just one filter to use cause i run at least two on all of my tanks, for canisters i use a c-400 and a xp4 i like both but if you choose aquatop go with the c-500.

I just wanted to add this: with the FX5 by it's self, my water perimeters were always perfect, but the water was never crystal clear. It was always slightly cloudy. I added a Magnum 350 to the tank with the micron filter to act as a water polisher and now my water LOOKS as flawless as it tests. I also have an AC110 on the tank just because I had it laying around. I use it for extra mechanical and if I need to add chemicals, I put it in the AC110. Right now I'm running Zeocarb in it; again just because I had it laying around.

Just curious, have you tried putting some carbon in your fx5? I have one running on my 75gallon and I have prefilter, 2 scour pads, 2 bags of Fluval carbon, water polishing pads, and 2 boxes worth of Biomax. Top to bottem in that order. Although I'm still on my cycle is going good so far. My tank was cloudy at first because of my driftwood. I put the carbon in and it's crystal clear.

Depending on what you're keeping onto of what I said with the AquaTop probably the CF-500 model for your tank size maybe an AC-110 Filter to compliment. I'm a firm believer or over filtration. I try to turn my tank as many times an hour I can. Currently my tank water turns about 10 times an hour so it looks great.

Actually the fx5 without media (running empty) is around 600gph. With media?????

Its rated at 900 but no filler does what it claims even the aqua tops so its still nowhere near double but the fluval is made better by far.....however i don't really like them as much as alot of people do i think they are overrated somewhat and prefer the fikstar the xp4 us hard to beat and higher quality than the aqua tops

I have a fx5 and a eheim 2260. I can tell you the eheim pushes more water when both are full and they have very similar media configs. And eheim flow ratings are supposed to be with media included.

Just remember in most circumstances you pretty much get what you pay for. In a few years when your canister is becoming problematic and taking a leak all over your floor... you'll wish you spent the extra cash.

Yes I agree with you . It's true you get what you pay for. I think I will try the Fluval fx5,
it seems to be the one that is used the most. Thanks for your help everyone .

Hopefully u don't end up with a broken fx5. Past few months it seems like I've read about a lot of problem with them
