I got a new canister for my new aquarium. It came with some filter pads, activated carbon and some API chem stars. I also aded a 17 oz pack of ceramic rings. There is an entire basket left with nothing in it. Sould i put stuff in it? Will it densly poulate the canister and will the flow rate go down? Does the order of the meadia matter?

it could slow down the how much water going thru the system but u would have clearer and less ammonia and nitrites if you add filter media in the last basket. Where is the basket placed? does the water go thru it first, second e.t.c

It is the last basket at the top but i can always move it. I was thinking about adding bio balls. Will that be okay?

if the basket the last part of the filtration you could but fine foam to get the really fine particles or put bioballs in, all bioballs do is give more surface area. A brand called seachem (you have probably heard of them) make something called matrix which has even more surface area than bioballs, each porous rock has something like 200 square cm's and the're only 1-1.5 cm across

Can't really go wrong with more bio media. I myself am a mechanical maniac. I like crystal clear water. It's really up to you but having to clean filter pads every other week cuz they are gunked up gets old fast.
