I am a huge fan of canister filters. I have a Fluval 305 & 405 on my 55g and a 305 on my 30g. My 20g and my 10g have HOB filters - no big deal on the small tanks.
My quandary is about my lower 30g (it is the bottom tank on a double stand). I would love to put a canister filter on that one to get the filtration I prefer. However, the directions on my Fluvals say there needs to be a certain amount of drop to make the filter work.
Right now I have a Whisper 30/60 and a Whisper 20/40 on the tank. Are there HOB options that are superior to these? I.e. - not incrimental improvements, but real leaps up. Rena SmartFilter? Hagen Aquaclear? (BTW, I am not a fan of bio-wheels.)
