I'm currently running two fluval 304's and a rena XP2 on my 125 G. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to set up the media in these for optimal filtration? I've been reading up on canister media but i am still somewhat confused.
Thanks in advance!

I have a fluval 404 and it is all I run for my 125. I know the fluval's have pretty good mechanical filtration so you don't really need to add anymore mechanical....I would fill your canister with bio media.

You could use some bio glass: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4136+4173&pcatid=4173

....or if you want to go the cheap route you could try some cheap scouring pads (round pads used for dishes). They have pretty good surface area.

What is your media set-up in each canister now?

In each fluval on the bottom i have those ceramic rings, then some carbon, then some polyfiber floss stuff.
In the rena all i have is floss and carbon.

Upon further research, im thinking of doing straight bio media in the fluvals plus the sponges that go up and down along the side. Will this be overkill?
Also, in the xp2, i was thinking i would do mostly mech media..
what do you guys think?

I have in the first 2 trays of mine ceramic bio media covered with a layer of tightly packed floss and the third basket has nothing but floss in. so ive got the best of both worlds.
