Thinking of using my 50g cube for freshwater duty.

I was considering the fx5, but it may be overkill for a 3-5 discus. I'm not worried about the capacity overkill but rather the flow. Also if I can get something better suited for my needs then I'd save some cash consdering the fx5 is about $250.

Thanks in advance; I'm all ears on what you guys would recommend me to research.

A fluval 305 will do the job. I agree an FX-5 is too much. I always like two filters like a 305 in combination with an Aquaclear 70 for the increased bio-filteration without too much current flow.

Thanks for the heads up..

I took a look at what was recommended and am considering either the G6 $342 w/ 2x filters and the cf500 $130.

I like the modern tricks that g6 has to offer, but what I'm more inclined to approve is the lastest trademark Fluval has in the community. If things were to break I could replace them, and if I were to sell this later I think I can still get a decent amount for it.

The Cf500 on the other hand is a lot cheaper, and I like that replacement parts are cheap. I also am not forced to use a specifically designed media cartridge and it has a UV built in. Though I don't really care for the UV and don't like extra things that could potentially break- especially coming from a company I never heard of, overall it seems like I'd get a lot for the money.

Now how well they both actually work is beyond my knowledge.

I'm still open to what you guys are thinking.

Can't go wrong with the G6 and you know you can find parts anywhere.
