I am upgrading my canister to a FX5 and I was wondering if I take all of the media out of my current filter and put it into the new one will there be any kind of cycling issues? It is basically adding 50% more uncultured media to the filter or is there a better way to do this? Thank you.

You got the right idea. If you want you can put some of the 'bacteria in a bottle' in to help.

Since you are willing to pull the media out of the existing canister I am assuming you no longer need it to use on a different tank. If this is the case I would just run that filter as-is in addition to running the fx5 with new media. If you don't like this idea what you are doing should be fine. This is also assuming the bio load in the tank is going to stay at a similar level.

i used all my media out of an my old filter and added some unused aswell to my fx5 and it was fine.
will be using all my old media for my next fx5 in a few days so yes use your media and add some more to fill the fx5 as it should be ok.
