Is the main advantage of canisters the large media volume vs pump size?
my 100gallon has a 1200lph canister and a 1200lph overhead (and a [relitivley] small sponge filter)
my 55gallon has 800lph canister and 1200lph powerhead made into a small internal power filter
my 40 gallon has a 1200lph overhead and a half decent (for tank size) sponge
I've had the canisters for 6months (100gallon tank) and 6-8 weeks on the 55gallon tank and have been truley impressed having never used them before. Now I am toying with converting the powerheads from internal/overhead filters into the pumps for DIY cannisters, would this be worth it really, how much better is a canister vs the other two options in other peoples opinions?
