canister vs sump filters

just wondering what is better for a planted aquarium...30-70 gallon setup...if ya know a good brand let me know...thanks

for that size tank, id go with canister, or a large HOB (hang on back) filter: Ex. emporrer 400 and aqua clear 110.

a sump is not needed for a 30-70g planted tank...for a 70g, i would use a rena xp3

Canister def. that way you can cause less water disturbance and sumps are for more of like a marine tank

An xp3 would be a good choice for a can.

if youre gonna be running pressurized co2, then stay away from sumps and HOB filters; theyll gas off most of your co2. stick with a canister filter.

i have a cascade 1500 on my planted 55g and it works great. its not as good as the other brands, but you cant beat it for the price.

I agree....Cascade filters are good ( I got two of them for myself )...you just have to add extra filter media...but yes best bang for the buck... but my personal FAV is EHIEM ( just got one.....very pricey).
