I recently purchased 2 xp3s for my 125 and am curious about the min. water level rule. The manual says there must be 24" between the water level and the top of the canister.

Why?
Can I go lower?

The point of the water level is because canisters rely HIGHLY on siphons to take the head factor out of the pump. You can go lower, but low will be significantly decreased.

if I recall with the XP3's the 24"s is the MINIMUM not the maximum.

it has to be at least 24" below the tank, to a maximum of 55" for optimum performance.

you should be good anywhere within these numbers.

my 150 has an XP3 that has 53" (if I recall) between the top of the tank and where the impeller sits and the flow is crazy.

so you should be good.
