all the "gunk" that i find in my canisters should it be washed out or just rinsed off---i use plastic scrubbies and filter floss....when i open up the filters it smells like a mile of sh^t .....is this good

Take some water out of your tank and wash it all with that then do a small water change, keep up with the water changes avery week and it wont be so stinky

I have an 8x2x2 and do a 20% water change every 2 or 3 days
No dont keep the gung, just wash with tank water not a thourough wash either just enough to take best part of the gung off

yes this gunk is inside of the entire filter----i use pre filter pads and filter pads in the bottom tray----all scrubbies in the 2nd tray and carbon an more filter floss in the top tray----then i stuff filter pads between the trays and the inside of the actual cainster itself
