Noticed our black olives come soaked in bioavailable iron. Can I somehow make use of this in a planted tank? It also has salt but doesn't say what salt exactly. Can I get the salt out of the solution?

I'm sure the salt is iodine... probably not a good idea, but than again, so does shellfish.

Hmm. Any other thoughts? I just dosed two of my native plant/invert vases with a little of it to see what happens. Apparently there is a lot of salt because the brown liquid I added sank to the bottom rapidly and just sat there. I'd mix it in, but I'm totally fascinated to see how the plants and snails stratify in response.

Planorbis snails, blackworm and daphnia hate it and are staying above the fog. Cyclops don't even seem to notice. Definitely not suitable for use as it comes out of the can. Wondering if there's a cheap way to get the ferrous out of solution.

Plants not doing well in those containers. Algae bloomed and critters are apparently back to normal. Perhaps I added too much. Not really worth another go IMO.
