so my pair had another clutch of eggs, as soon as they hatched the batch before started eating the fry and the parents jsut watched it all happen. i was always under the impression that the parents would eat their older fry and raise their new clutch? iv seen them do it before but not the other way around. Its kind of a good thing because now i'll have larger fry in the big tank. anyone else had this happen?

Always a problem with my old pair! Female would let offspring eat new eggs. My umbees were different they would clear out the old offspring first.

With my Dovii one of the fry got so big about 5 inch and I noticed this offspring was starting to get cocky and confident with my big male, sure enough came home one day and found that young male in two peices lol.

lol dont mess with pappa bear. hope this keeps happening tho, really wanna keep my bichirs in the 90. i know a bunch of growing dovii wont tolerate a giant looking worm so with mom n pop theyll stay

Thats funny this happened to me but the pair was a male dovii and a female texas the would clear a nest off in a day the while the female was was setn on it they would sneak in under her then steal a few eggs and take off and another one would sneak in and do it again and repeat it like a relay until the texas chased off the ones that she caught them red handed it but not kill or attempt to it took them a day for the first nest to clear I will say this though a fresh batch of eggs makes the best fry food ever

good info on the dovii vs umbee difference in how they deal with their batches.

i like that story about the cocky lil son got to be in 2 pieces

Same thing here at my neighbors house with their 2 Boxers. Son grew up big like the father and flexed on him. Tey fought and Father killed the son.. After that the fathe boxer missed his son and regret..

I know Doviis dont feel like that..
