i've got a couple big ehiems running on one of my big tanks while i assemble the w/d. can i use the media in the ehiems in the wet/dry? will it have any reasonable affect or should i just leave the media in the cannisters and use them as backup?

no love for cannister biomedia in a wet/dry? wow.

Yes you most certainly can. I have a few hundred dollars worth of eheim sub pro in my wet dry now.

Sure...It will transfer the bacteria to the W/D and after the W/D is establihed, you can rinse or clean them and put them back in the canisters for your next new tank :D .
