I am making a canopy for my new 75 gallon tank. I am getting a 48 inch double buld shop light from lowes. I want to make a low profile hood no more then 6 inchs. If I attach the light to the top of my canopy there is nothing covering the front of the bulbs so if the fish splash water up on the bulbs it wont be a very pleasant site. so what do u guys use to cover ur bulbs???????

did u have the glass attached to the light or it it just sitting on the tank. also would i need a fan if I have the back of the canopy cut out for 2 power filters

cheapest piece of plexi you can get and just lay it between

what i was thinking about doing is get a some glass to cover have the tank and add some small pieces of wood to get the light up off the glass so it does not get too hot and then just build a canopy to cover the light up. if u need me to draw pic let me know

should work fine. a fan would prolly be for the best though, even if its small just to keep the air moving.

I would use glass tops in conjunction with your canopy. put the tops on, then screw your strip light to the "roof" on the inside of your canopy to give it some clearance above the glass. If you don't want to buy tops specifically made for an aquarium, you could just go to a glass shop and have them cut pieces for you, and make a hinge with a bead of silicone.
