Canopy plans for 55 gal

I recently setup a 55 gal and have been thinking about building a canopy to hide the lights and HOB filters and remove the broken lids that are currently in place.

I attached some SketchUp images of my idea. It will be black to match my stand and I will probably paint the inside with a moisture resistant paint in a light color.

It may be a week or so before I can get started but I will post some build pics once I do.

It seems like a simple enough build. I am going to make sure and get the dimensions exact before proceeding.

Here is a new sketch with my current stand.

I have a recommendation....you may want to overlap the wood on the sides so when it's closed you don't see a "seam" of light coming throughthe sides. Using a long hinge on top will help trap light on top.

Lastly, stapling some aluminum foil to the inner sections will augment your light. Have fun building and post pics.

Thanks for the compliments. I did a lot of searching for canopy pics and tried to put the best combination of function and appeal into one. I hope to begin the build in the next couple of weeks. I will be sure to post some build pics and the finished product. This tank has become addicting but so far I have done a good job of not getting out of control on the spending. Who am I kidding...I am already thinking about a 125.
