Has anyone installed Shocks to the side of there tanks so they can keep it open only a few inches? Im thinking of doing this... Cuz i like to crack the top open a little with stick but i dont trust it... Reason? i spot feed some fish, and the tank+Stand are only 4feet tall. An i hate open it every time i toss something in...

Ok, ya got my curiosity peaked :grinyes: Do a thread in the DIY section and take pictures along the way.

Btw, I like the idea. :headbang2

I will when i find the right ones... two down and still not working... I tired car trunk to these little once i found at a junk yard... They work the best but i cant some way to stop the shock... most are pressured.... so they want to go all the way out... Ill find something.

Your best bet is to use the ones listed for camper shell doors. Most of the ones sold for auto hoods and trunks have WAY too much pressure. If you check the back of the application catalogue they list the pressure in pounds per square inch of each of the part numbers. The camper shell shocks also have a more universal mounting set up than the auto ones.

(Managed a parts store for 18 years....LOL)

Hi Bizzaro,

Most hardware stores sell 'box hinges' pretty cheap [about 2-3 bucks] they are also called 'lid stays', or 'lid supports.' They are usually used for toy-box, or storage chest lids, and can hold it open at a specific angle using spring pressure, or can lock into place to hold it open. Depending on how you mount the second type, you can vary how much the leave open.

Cool! It's not a bad idea. How about some lowering springs and a sway bar! LOL Post some pics if you do this.

No lowering springs but i could hook you up with a power vent window regulator to build a power operated top out of ....LOL
