Today I built a canopy for my 180 gallon tank. The lfs near me wanted 450-500 dollars for the canopy and thats more than the stand. So i went to the lumber store and pick up all the wood for 50 dollars. I used pine beacuse its the same wood the stnd is built out of. Than I mad a filp top lid on top of the canopy so i can fed the fed and other thing without takeing the caopy off. I also have a glass top for the tank. So all ou have to do i open the lid on top and than open 1 of the 3 glass top lid on the tank. Now all i have to do is sand it down and than paint it black so eveything matches, Please let me know what you guys think of it ? :D

Not bad, it looks good. For years I never had canopies, but now I have them on every show tank. All are DIY.

On the first few, only the very top opened like your design. I changed my design so that the whole front third opens up. It made it a lot easier to work on the tank. Now I can do a lot without removing the canopy.

Here are pictures of my 120. My 90 and 220 canopies are designed the same. Having the 220 open like this is a real bonus. It is very heavy and hard to take on and off.
