I'm having a heck of a time deciding what large canister I should put on my 80 gal. I am looking for opinions on which would be better as the sole filter on the tank: eheim classic 2260, eheim pro 3, or fluval fx5.

being the sole filter, I would need the best balance between mechanical and biological filtration, but I also want your professional opinions on ease of use and media selection. Help me decide! I am stumped!

All three filters you mentioned are good quality. I run the Fluval but if you have the extra money, go with eheim.

I think it all comes down to money, if you can afford the ehiem go for it. Thats not to say there is anything wrong with the FX5, from what I have heard it's a nice filter for the money.

On my 75 I am running a 2217 with great results.

Howdy,

The 2060 might be a bit overkill. You may want to consider the 2217 or 2250 instead. The Pro3 sucks at mechanical filtration, and the FX5 has comparatively very little biocapacity.

I say 2217
