Ok i just put my new stand and set up my 55gal aquarium and am about to start filling it.:D:D:D

My original plan was to get 1 JD or EBJD depending on if i can find 1 near me and 2 Cons.

Well, I showed my parents how cool the tank looks in "My" room with the lights on and my mom said i should get a bunch of african chiclids like

But... I didn't want to over stock my tank and thought my original plan was a good stocking. Now my mom thinks i should get these guys. I do like them a lot , but i would rather atleast a med./larger fish that fits in a 55g. Would if be ok if i put some africans in there and a JD and cut the cons:confused::confused::confused:

Also how many of these african cichlids could i put in a 55gal if it is only them?

Thx

Okay get what YOU want, not what your mom wants. She's not the one taking care of the fish (right?).

But you could keep africans in a 55g.

A Jd and Gt could live in there-however if you keep both, there would probably be some aggression problems. (dont keep them with the africans though)

Yeah. A Jd and GT would work as far as bioload. But as he said, there may be aggression issues.

A 55 with Mbuna is pretty cool. I had one with 15-20 Mbuna for a while.

It just comes down to what your preference is.

Show your mom a pic of a full grown GT, and she may change her mind.

What if the GT and JB are young when i get them?

It does help when you put them together as juvis. However, you will find that all cichlids have different personalities, and that there is no rule of thumb here. It may work in the long run, and it may not. There is only one way to find out.

Thx angler that is what i am going to try. although at my LFS they have JD's and Cons with some oscars, parrot cichlids, african cichlids, angels, piranha, and a lot of saltwater stuff. Never seemed to see any GT's :(
