fairmount, in
as fas as the building of the sump i get that looks easy enough, but the part i don't understand is that it looks like all sumps are gravity fed via an overflow of some sort, and pump goes on the clean end of the sump to pump the water back to the tank....ok heres where you lose me....wouldn't the pump, pump the water out faster than it comes in causing the pump to run dry??? or does the inlet to the sump need to be below water level in the sump, so that the pump can draw it?? i don't understand how you equalize it so that it runs a constant loop......am i just over thinking or what?? if someone could please explain this part to me like i'm 2 it would be great:popcorn:

I am only 1 and a 1/2. So me too.:naughty: Hay, pass the popcorn!

overflow= water OVER FLOW out from the tank by how much the pump pump up from the sump. 1" hole's good for 600 ghp so get a pump rated for how big or how many holes for overflow.

is that a mathmatical thing or just trial and error? do the amount of turns in the overflow change the rate? i was looking at the U shaped pvc over flows i've seen on here

I'ts easy I built mine and it came out killer, buy an overflow rated higher than your pump 1000 gal overflow , 800 gal pump, believe me overflows have no problem siphoning water out of your tank I bought a 1200 gal over flow off craigslist for 20 bucks brand new

Ryan, come over to my house and I (doug) will go through it with you in whatever detail you need to thoroughly understand

the only water that drains out is water that overflows so it usually works out evenly as long as u dont have like a siphon overflow in which case u gotta adjust it a little. one simple way to make it work out is to get a pump that is adjustable. i got one and it makes the whole thing easy cuz u can always adjust the flow rate.
