I have a 5" Argentea with excellent finnage and markings but can't find the right lighting. I think the first problem is right now I have a single T5 Flourescent tube. In addition to that, the color is all off since the Argentea is a mainly silverish fish and these bulbs all cast some kind of colored light. The daylight I have now makes the tank look good and natural but the Argentea pretty purple in the body and reddish purple in the fins with little "shine". Part of this is a wattage issue, I know, so that needs to be addressed too.

What lighting would you Argentea keepers recommend to get the most natural look for my fish? I don't know if I want to go all out with the price but am definitely willing to upgrade from the single floro strip light. I tried all the other floro T5 bulbs (marine, plant, etc) but they all make the tank look like garbage.

Thanks!

dual t5 with 10,ooo k bulbs and how big is the tank cuz u wanna make sure its not gunna be to much light

6500-6700K gives a natural look to my tank. The fixtures I have use two T5's, so I have a colormax and a 6500k mix going and it seems just right. I tried the 10K tubes in my tank and it produced a very crisp white but gave the tank a bleached out look. I am keeping darker fish and have a dark gravel so my lighting needs are a little different.

I have a darker tank as well with a large piece of dark brown driftwood and black sand. I'm intrigued by the LED... Does anyone else have experience with this setup? I see they have the "double brite" Marineland LED strip.

Thanks again.

I have wood in the tank that stains the water fairly quickly. I'm wondering if the bright white light of the LED might just make the tank look dirty? Whereas now the purplish light of the daylight bulb might cancel out the brown water?

Anybody with tannin stained water use the white LEDs?
