I had a spare AquaClear 50, so I decided to get it going on the 40 gallon tank that I had my Electric Blue Haps in since I'm going to get some more fish for the tank, and I can't get it to sit on the back of the aquarium. I think the aquarium brace is too wide, the filter doesn't sit completley over the brace. Should I try putting something under the filter? I guess I'm just worried about the stability of the filter, because one time I had an AquaClear 70 tilt back too far, and the water started spilling out of the back of the filter onto the floor. The aquarium is an Aqueon 40 gallon breeder that I got from Petco a few years ago during the dollar per gallon sale.

Will the filter fit over the inner edge of the top frame at all?.....if the other example you mentioned is an issue you can place a small object, like a bottle cap between the filter and the back of the tank.

Is the problem that the filter tips the wrong way on the tank, or that you cannot get it on the tank edge? Krricharson (above) is right if it is the first situation. If it is the second issue, I had to once use a Dremmel tool and grind some plastic off of the tank frame lip if that makes sense.

I can't get it over the tank edge. It will fit over the first part of the frame, but it won't fit over the lip that would be used to support a glass canopy if I had one. I'm worried because I can move the filter back and forth on the right side of the filter, but the side with the intake is more secure because I think it sits further over the frame. The AquaClear filters have a little piece of plastic on the back of the filter to keep it from tilting back too far, and I think it fell out on my AquaClear 70 when I had that issue with the water coming out of the back a few years ago. I'm just worried that the AquaClear 50 will tilt back too far without it completley going over the tank frame.

You could cut away a length of that inner frame shelf about the width of the filter so it sits more securely.
I had to do this on a tank so I could position a heater how I wanted it.
