A LFS near me has a Wide Bar for sale. It is @5inch and is for $230.00
I can ID dats pretty well, and it is deff a wide bar. It has been there for several months, and everytime I go in, it just begs me to take it home. I have held off so far as that is WAY MORE cash then I have ever dished out on a fish.

I am moving in the coming months, so setting up a new tank isn't somthing I can do right now. It would have to go in my 55gallon, which would contain.

8inch thin bar
2inch thin bar
8inch syno eupterus
and 4-5inch royal plec

I guess I am asking if I have enough room for it, without putting it in jeapordy. I currently have 2 whisper 60's on it and 1 whisper 40. If I did get this fish I would also go out and buy a rena xp3.

I am also very aware that more dats are good inorder to spread aggresion around and the same LFS will be getting a shipment in this coming Wednesday of 2 inch thinbars. I would want to buy 3 of those for the tank aswell so that the large 8 inch dat is less likely to beat up on the wide bar.
But that now adds more fish to a relativly small tank:(

I know this was kinda long, but I'm really hoping you guys would either give me that final push to go for it, or talk some sense into me;) . I know this may be my only chance to get a widebar, but it aint worth it if the chances of survival are bad.

ALL opinion are MORE then welcome and appreciated. :grinno:

$230 is not alot of money if its a real pulcher

I would do it...that's not too bad for a pulcher.

If you go with the added filtration it will only do you good. Just add a bunch of hide spots and visual barriers...and POST THOSE PICS!! :D

Thanks for the responses so far.

$230 is alot of money, for me atleast. But I agree totally with you guys that $230 for a ST is worth it. I am more concerned about spending my money and watching it die because it never had a chance.

Noone has said that my tank is to small yet, or that it would be to over stocked so I am guessing I am in the clear there.

If i decide to do this is there anything I can do to better its chances of survival?

and should I add the wide bar and the 3 thin bars in all at once, or wait a week inbetween so not to risk a big change in the water params all of a sudden.

I wanted to start adding a bit of salt to my tank as well to help prevent any illnesses from even starting, would I just add it in my tank or is it somthing that I would slowly add with water changes.

Oh and dont worry if I do it, Ill add plenty of pics! Thanks for the help guys!

I would definitely give it some time between adding the fish...maybe a couple of weeks just to give your biological filtration time to catch up with the added waste.

I would just make sure there are plenty of hide spots and visual barriers to break up the tank. I think you'll be fine though.

If you're not adding enough salt where you're going to have an effect on the salinity/specific gravity, then you could gradually add the salt over a course of a day or so and then just treat for what you are replacing after that.

i dont think there will be a big problem with just adding the widebar. the thinbar might attack it, it might not... its goes either way. but adding the 2 inch thinbars wouldnt help. big dats are only aggresive toward dats aroudn their size. the 8 inch one wouldnt bother any of the small 2 inchers so it wouldnt really spread out aggresion.

i would do it actually but too much waste from the plec i would get rid of

Yup lose the panaque, they produce way to much waste. If you want to keep the water pristine lose that royal. I've tried a royal with little dats and I couldn't keep the water clean enough with it in there. IMO a nice widebar is a nicer fish than a royal plec. Also you can never have enough filtration so I would try to add more. GL ;)

Also if the fish has been there for awhile try offering $200 for him. My guess is you can probably get him at that price :)

well im seriously considering getting the Pulcher, but if I do it wont be for another 3 weeks (got some bills to pay) I post some pics if I end up getting it.
