i have a 125 gal setup for about 3 weeks now and i cant get the water clear what can i do......i have a trickle filter underneath

I had a 150 gallon with a trickle filter system like yours and even after 6 months it never cycled.

I added bacteria, and ammonia, and it was ridiculous.

Needless to say, I sold the tank :D

bummer is there a cheap filter system i can add to the tank to help

I thought that the 3 HOB filters rated for 80 gallons would help that I slapped on.

It helped a little, but I got tired of this being in my livingroom and looking like crap. haha.

What's your flow through rate?

:DIv'e got a cheap as chips in tank, ultra violet clarifier, pretty crappy as a filter but I got it for the uv light,(£13) I use it without filter material just pushing water past the uv, with a 7 liter external canister filter underneath the tank,( managed to prise £55 out of the wifes claws for that) thats got 4 layers of filtration 1 bio balls, 1 ceramic tube things, 1 activated carbon, and 1 filter wool. but I also usually do at least a 50% water change every couple of weeks. any way and its always crystal clear.

If yourbudget though, and as long as you dont mind a bit of work every now and again, stick to the 50% water changes every week or two weeks, yes its a bit of a pain, the easiest way is to get a 10 meter hose pipe shove it in your tank, put the other end out of your front or rear door suck on the end to start the syphon and drain the 50% away, Also if you have an upstairs bath tub, the night before you do the water removal, fill the bathtub with watyer leave overnight for the chlorine to dissipate, then refill your tank by putting the end in the bathtub weighted down, so it doesn't flop out and the other end suck syphon into your tank. till its full. I know its a bit of messing about but if your on a budget its a reasonable way of keeping a clear tank with minimum layout.

lol i know my tanks isnt even half the size of yours but i had the problem in my 55 gallon and i put gravel from my cichlid tank in the filter built up behind the bio bag and it cleared up in about a month with about 2 50-75% water changes a week

Clean filter, change carbon. Two days later or so do a 59% water change and add some cycle, stress coat plus, and alittle accu- clear. If that doesn't do the trick, repeat the process a week later. Be easy with the cycle tho, I've had a bad experience!!

Good luck, hope to see the water crispy!!!
