Hi i have a 150g tank with 2 pacu, 3 oscars, 1 pleco... for now the fish are not fully grown all around 6-7 inches... for filtration i have 2 aquatop/sunsun 304b 530gph filters on the tank which i am very satified with they circulate the water great.

I do weekly water changes of 50% and the water will be very clear for 1-2 days and then it will get a tinted color to it. the tank has been running for 3-4 months now.. I do have driftwood in the tank and i know it can cause water to change its color but the driftwood has been in tank for 3 months or so... what could be causing this? is it still the driftwood? what should i do? I sometimes want to do every other day water changes to keep the water crystal clear but i know the fish dont need it..lol

I am new to fish and aquariums so any help is really appreciated

any pics? what color does the water turn? if it's brown probably tannins released from the driftwood, green probably algae, whitish is probably an ammonia spike.

the water is a little tan..... its kind of like looking through a car window with very little tint.. just cant get the water to stay clear... i do water test and all my levels are in the normal ranges...

Pretty safe bet its tannins. If it bothers you just run some carbon it will help. Depending on the size and type of DW you have it can take a while to stop leaching.

It's most Likely the driftwood. If its a large piece it could leach tannins for a long time.

You should get used to the colour because it probably not going away anytime soon. If you can't live with the yellowish brown water, you could try using a background in the tank or paint the back pane of glass

2 fairly large pieces of driftwood in tank.... I do have carbon in both my canister filters... I might take the wood out and do a water change and see if that helps...

Maybe your carbon is old. After its saturated, carbon will leach chemicals back into the water. Try replacing it. You can also reuse carbon. Take it out and let it bake in the sun for a few days. It should restore its properties.

Its a Jersey Thing
