Please help, I purchased my tig when he was about 2" and he is now about 8" (not including his streamers). He is in a 125 all by himself. When I first purchased him, my concern was for him to put on some size so that he might not be as fragile, so I simply loaded the tank with rosie reds and gold fish. He constantly ate and grew quickly. The last month and a half to 2 months, I have not put a feeder in the tank. I have tried frozen silver sides, tilapia, massivoire and carnivore pellets and he hasn't eaten any. I tried all these after I have turned off the lights. He may have eaten one or two items in this time but I haven't seen him eat and the food is typically sitting on the bottom when I turn the lights back on in the morning. I am starting to worry about him. From past threads here I have read about how you can typically pellet train them in a week or so, figures mine would be the exception. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am also growing out a tarpon and a BD ray in another 125. They are both growing very quickly and are eating like champs. Would it help to put the catfish in with them or keep him by himself? I would think that the ray would eat all the food and the catfish wouldn't have time to eat it.

That is a tough one. I had both of my tigs eating tilapia within 2 days of getting them at 3-4". The old one wouldn't eat pellets for over a year and just started one day. I would try some different things. Try warmer and cooler water. Aim a powerhead close to wear it normally sits. Drop a piece of tilapia into the stream so it blows right to it. If he doesn't grab it and it drifts away, pull it out and try again. Try some tongs or a kabab skewer and just wave the tilapia in his face. The new baby I just got I use my fingers and just put in his face and he took it the first try. I wouldn't worry about pellets yet. Just work on getting him to eat dead. Tilapia always seems to work.

I'd not put the tig with any other fish at this point.

I'd not start with pellets although something like Hikari massivore can be tried.

Tying a thread to a food item and bobbing and dancing it around before his snout could work.

Just be persistent and consistent. If the tig gets too thin (as can happen after 3-5 months without food), fatten him up and continue.
