Hi. I am setting up a 55g tank and wondering if my 3 favorite fish species from past tanks are compatable in both water conditions and temperment. I would like to get 6 - 12 cardinals, 2 tin foil barbs, and 2 firemouths. My trusty (but very old) aquarium guide says both the firemouth and the tinfoil barb are peaceful, but maybe times have changed. The tank has many caves and hiding spots, but I want the cardinals to be able to swim in schools and not get chased constantly. All would be purchased as smaller fish, maybe there is an order of introduction that would be better? thanks

cant say anything about the cardinals but all i know is the tinfoils get massive produce a LOT of waste and swim constantly, i have one firemouth that while growing out i threw a few neons in there just to see what would happen, he pretty much ignored them... so other than the tinfoils potentially outgrowing the 55 (pretty sure they can easily reach a foot to 14" somebody correct me if im wrong, this is only an issue because of their constant fast swimming) you should be okay... if i were you i'd consider something slightly smaller than the tinfoils but if you do go for the tinfoils better have some really good filtration
