Hey dudes,
Ive just bought a 6` x 2` x 2` ex marine tank that had seen better days, ive resealed the tank ( plugged 2 holes in the base that were for inlet and outlet tubes ), and redone the plumbing to the sump/wet n dry filter after checking everything was water tight.
Now her comes the confusing part:screwy:, i connected everything up fillled the sump tank and marked the water level and left it 2 run, i dont know how but 12hrs later the water level in the sump had dropped by nearly 4 litres, i know this because i poured water into the sump using a measuring jug up to the water level.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal as this is my first tank with a wet n dry/sump, i deffinatley know their is no water leaking from anywhere and it cant be down to evaporation becuase it has no heater.....hmm. :WTF:

Do you have a larger than normal amount/diameter of tubing? Maybe the tubes werent full when you turned it on? Media could also absorb a good amount of water in a system that size... Seems like a lot, though.

I have 50mm pipe from my weir, but the drop in water level is still happening now but alot less, maybe 1 litre over 12hrs.. dont know whats going on ?

Either its leaking or something is slowly absorbing the water. Unless its 100 degrees in there, that would be too much for evaporation.

That water is sure going somewhere. Have you checked your tanks water level, is it raising?

try this turn off the pump then fill the sump to the safe point by adding the water to the tank not the sump

Is it possible that you have some media (or anything else) that was not fully saturated when you first filled the tank... and is slowly reaching it's saturation point thus absorbing water as it does?

Dropping 4 liters in the first 12 hours... then dropping 1 liter in the next 12 hours... so it sounds like the above is a possibility, although it would take a lot of media to soak up 5 liters of water...

Have you accounted for the water in the pipes and the head height of the water in the display tank when the pump and overflows are in full swing?
