I cant be bothered to search and find the thread so what was the outcome/conclusion of the captive bred datnoid thread from a few months ago.
where they captive bred or wild caught captive reared.

while back when datnoids were not famous. it was caught from the wild. but ever since datnoids been in high demand. the datnoids started to become less and less in the wild. and apparently. i believe someone found out how to breed the datnoids. so the ones that comes in nowadays in 100s or 1000s are captive breed. i think its good that someone found out because ever since the ST's are in the extinction list. IT, NTT and other breeds were probably next to get extinct. thats all i know. hope it helps.

thanks for the info but i know the background on these fish, there was a thread someone posted with links to a supposed captive breeding program b ut i've been away from the ate for a while and can't remember who posted it.

it might have been the one i made from Thailand Dixon. I found no evidence that Dats are commercially farm bread. I visited 2 farms which claimed they had them, but they didn't. I gave up looking at farms after that.

Another poster from Sumatra posted information that the harvest of indos this year was massive and the middle men had so many fish they didn't know what to do with them. That would explain the massive influx of tiny indos in plastic bags being sold on the street at JJ market here in Bangkok that i saw. That's what originally got me interested in the subject because there where so many of them.
They now sell 3 bar indos as STs which have grown a little. Obviously vendors are trying to make a quick buck.

I also spoke to someone from the Department of Fisheries in Bangkok about the attempted breeding program for native STs at a research facility in Bungborapetch lake. I have been told that the program is still at the scientific level and has met with a little success, that could mean anything though. one fish in a million survival rate, 10% survival, all fry hatch deformed.... who knows. I can't get any exact information as of yet.
I also know that private farms are trying to get them breading but no one has sussed it out yet. I do believe they will though, i think the research facility will be the first place to crack the puzzle, then the information will be sold to the highest bidder on the black market. I also expect any future ST trade to be heavily regulated, similar to Arows.

Just to add a little more i also know a guy who sells NTTs exclusively, he's also a good source of information. He's the one who's told me the most about farm bread attempts. They all know it's a gold mine, especially with STs.

when i was working at all-happy, the place that we got it from they breed it themselves. wish i can give you the information on the location but i promised ted to keep it classified. if anything try asking ted

^ I'm sorry but that just isn't true. You're friend should contact the Department of Fisheries in Bangkok, he will become world famous in the Fish industry overnight, not to mention rich.

Speaking of captive bred Dats, are NTTs were being captive bred? I'm starting to think that ITs are also being captive bred. Just all the "oddball" patterns showing up makes me think that they are being captive bred.

it was just something that the wholesaler told me. to be honest i wouldnt know. like everyone else gotta see it to believe it right. so since you are closest the the country that they ship it out from im sure you know probably alot more then i do. :D

some asian countries catch datnoid for food from most people tell me. like the siamese tigers indos might be close to extinction in the wild i presume. so im sure they found out a way by now to breed it. if i was from the wild still i wouldnt have come in as often as what it does now.

I can tell you 100% sure NTTs are not captive bred. They all come from the Mekong and surrounding areas, near Nakon Phnom, Nong Kai and Mukddahan in the North east of Thailand. They will be caught on the Laos side of the river as well. A vendor who sells NTTs only at JJ market has given me this information.

As i wrote i visited 2 farms here in Thailand that claimed to have farm bred ITs only to see none there and be asked how many i wanted to buy.
