I have two 8"ish male P. splendida and am thinking of adding one 3.5" C. myersi into the mix. I had a 6" myersi many years back and remember this thing was a terror.

First step is debating if this even has a chance of working out before trying.

What say MFK?

all the myersi that ive had (2) were never really aggressive, they could hold their own pretty easy but the never really started fights, except with each other

I don't know what MFK will say, but IMO, its a bad idea. An 8" snook has a HUGE mouth. You would just be taking a chance on making that myersi a meal. Thats just too awesome and rare of a fish to risk like that.

:iagree:

I've kept myersi in the past, with Thorichthys, Hoplarchus, and Crenicichla. The only issues I had with aggression was with each other, but that was just in a 75gal tank. They are definitely not demons when compared with some of the other SA cichlids.

I'd grow it out till its at least 4.5", then it'll definitely be deep bodied enough to avoid becoming a meal. ;)

Post up some pictures btw...;)

do you recall their approximate size? it wouldn't be the myersi I would worry about.

Mine were just starting to push the 6" range. Had four of them together in a 75gal. Definitely didn't like each other very much, but left the other fish alone unless bothered.

I've kept snooks as well, and I wouldn't be worried about them. They can stand up for themselves if need be. ;) I've kept mine with Crenicichla lenticulata, which can bring the butt kicking to just about any cichlid if they want to. LoL

Your main issue right now is going to be size.

I kept a 12" plus male snook with a 8" myersi in a 210 no problems. Both tended to have personalities where they'd just cruise and mind their own business. As long as the snook can't eat the myersi go for it.
