I am trying to put in an aftermarket CD player into my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have done a few installs before and never had any problems. The factory unit came out very easily and I hooked up my new deck.

The new unit powers up and the radio plays, but the CD player and AUX to my ipod wont work. I was told to connect the Blue striped cord from the new head unit to the solid blue of the factory harness, this gave no sound at all. When I connected the solid blue to the solid blue only the radio worked, but not the CD player or the AUX.

I have the ten disc changer and the Infinity sound system, do I have to unhook anything from those?!?

Thanks in advance!!

Infinity usually uses a factory amplifier, that would either have to be turned on, or bypassed.
Also do you have a powered antenna lead (usually blue w/ white strip) from you new head unit in addition to a Remote turn-on lead (usually solid blue)? Sounds to me like you have the power antenna turn on lead hooked up to the factory amp turn-on at the factory harness.

"When I connected the solid blue to the solid blue only the radio worked, but not the CD player or the AUX." This is why i think you have the wrong lead from the head unit hooked up to the factory amp. A Power antenna lead will only provide current when the head unit is in radio mode and not CD or AUX

When the striped one is hooked up none work. Sounds to me like you have the power antenna turn on lead hooked up to the factory amp turn-on at the factory harness.

It sounds like the wire you have hooked up from the new unit is a power antenna lead that you have hooked up to the amp turn-on in the factory harness. Basically, when you switch out of radio mode, power is discontinued in the Power antenna lead (since it only needs power to operate the antenna for radio mode) The other blue wire that leads off of the new head unit should be the one to kick on the factory amp. Do you see an inline fuse on that wire? Do you own a multi-meter or a test light? Try this:
Probe both wires individually, one wire should have currrent anytime the player is turned on (in any mode). This will be your Amp turn on lead, this is the wire you need hooked up.
Test the other wire and you should only get power in radio mode (power antenna lead), you don/t need this wire hooked up.
If you dont have a wire that puts out current in all modes, then it is likely that the player is faulty (unless there is an inline fuse that needs to be replaced) You can always source your power from another location to turn on you amp, however depending on that particular source you may end up taking in some engine noise.

Good luck!

you have pictures?? the blue striped one is a .01 amp i think or .1 amp so be careful with it... that much could really screw you up. the blue strip should have nothing to do with your sound its the the antenna i believe. ummm seems like your ground is good... unless you get that wizzing noise.... ummm... maybe its a defective unit... i had one of those before.... took me 3 days to realize it was the unit....
