Ok so u just put my mustang back on the road after sitting for 5 months for the winter. I've noticed a squeaking noice upon cold starts. And it gets louder during accelerating.

My thoughts were (belt, pulley, or tob). I had the wife give it gas without clutch on a warm start and heard the noise faintly. Then with clutch and noise was still there so I tossed the tob being bad. So I'm thinking just the belt or pulley or tentioner. Am I right or did I miss something. Car is a 06 mustang...

If its been sitting get out and drive it a bit, sounds like a belt that has just been sitting, drive it get everything all warm and going and it will probably disappear.

Its gotta get me to work and back about 16 miles and then I can fix it this weekend. The belt looks good so I'm thinking tensioner or idler pulley

Had my father over and asked him to take a look. He said idler pulley. He listened for about 10 mins over and under car and said to start with that. I thought the sound originated from the top pulley as well so that's gonna get fixed in the next few days

Hello; The tensonier should be spring loaded to put tension on the belt. It may have become stuck in place from sitting and not able to move enough. This should be fairly easy to check.
Not sure why the belt would be squeaky from sitting. Perhaps oil or something dripped on it.

Animals sometimes nest or stay in cars that sit outside for a time, so that may be something to look for.

The bearings in an idler or tensioner pully should not go bad from sitting unless they were near failure to start with.

I have had such failures with cars that sit for months. Sitting for a few months initiates odd failures sometimes.

Good luck

Thanks for ur response. I'm gonna start at the idler pulley they if that's not it I will move to the tensioner. I hate storing cars for just this reason. You never know with these cars now a days
