I was throwing around the idea of using car underbody LED strips as lighting in a non planted freshwater tank. I found a couple different waterproof bars that were 20" long for $12-$20 that have 30 lights in them that are supposed to not get hot. Some are flexible and some aren't but the rigid ones have a 180 degree angle compared to 90 from the flexible ones. The main benefit I see to this sort of set up is that it can be mounted under the top of a plywood tank and eliminate the need for a big bulky hood. Anyone have any thoughts on using these lights?

Also what would it take to run a 12v system like this using the power from your house? just a 12v adapter from old chargers?
