State of chaos
I'm not going down to Fla until march but last year I realized that the Punta Gorda canals are full of Jack Crevalle! They ram baitfish like Mullet, Silversides, and Glass Minnows (Anchovies) up against the surface/sea walls, creating noise that brings people out of their houses! :WHOA:
So how do you catch them? Next year i'm gonna spend more time working lures in the middle of the canal to pick up a cruising Jack, and trolling for Jacks/Snook/Goliath Grouper (on the way to my Stingray spot at least:grinno:)
The guide we went with used a 6 inch Yo Zuri Crystal Minnow in Redhead and I hauled in a Barracuda! Usually the Jacks frenzy across the canal. I want to try a plug attached to a line with a 6 oz sinker so I can cast. I know that lighter line would make for better casting, but Jacks can push 20 pounds, have unlimited stamina, and can easily break me off on a cement dock or an oyster bed so I'm gonna use 50 lb braid and a wire leader.

A plug with a 6" sinker attached will probably not run well. I would highly suggest a diamond jog or heavy "tin" lure as opposed to a plug. A feeding Jack will nail it anyway. Good luck!
