So should i have some carbon or just go the all polyfill route?

It isn't necessary. I just stick to my filter floss and sponges.

Ya me 2 but my dad is a stubber fool and thinks fish need it hahaha its all good tho

What Lupe said. I actually just changed all my media today. I use the standard blue and white poly stacked with filter media for amonia and phosphates, also scrubbies. As far as carbon, its not needed, unless youre coming off a med period or trying to get tannins out of the tanks. The problem with carbon is that after awhile it will actually release whatever it was put in to get.

I run carbon in my marine tanks.. it's not necessary, but if any of my fish come down with something there's no good way for me to treat the tank without endangering my rare inverts.

don't use it . . . only exception is I will use it on my QT tanks to remove meds after a course of treatment . . .

carbon without a doubt helps keep the smells associated with the tank down

^ agreed. I don't think it's needed, but I always keep some on hand for meds. I also use it in my ac110 for the tank that's in my living room, so my wife won't complain about the smell.
