So ive ben setting up my tank to eventually be able to keep a stingray. Doing all the research and about a week ago i changed the substrate over from gravel to black sand. A couple days later the bag of carbon from my HOB filter broke and spewed bits of carbon into the black sand...

Could this be harmful to the ray? From what ive read if you chose to use sand it should be fine and soft and the bits of carbon are slightly larger then the sand.

Should i try to mix it into the sand or tediously attempt to remove it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

I run sand with small river pebbles with my rays im growing out without problems

Also how tolerant are they to a higher ph? The lowest ive ben able to keep it stable at is 7.4 but it comes out of my tap at 7.8
I keep mine in stable 7.6 and have never had any problem. You should have something to keep your Kh stable so yoru ph dont swing to much as that is leathal for rays. Always stable ph

What do you use to keep your Kh stable? Just curious because I always hear people talk about keeping ph stable but rarely talk about keeping Kh stable.

Not gunna lie im not to educated in kh. My understanding was things like large amounts of beneficial bacteria and regular water changes keep that in check.

Ive had tanks for well over a decade and never really had an issue with it to my knowledge

I use bicarbonate to buffer my kh. High kh means stable ph. You cann also use oystershells
