carbon replacement

If I dont use carbon my tank stinks, water turns green very soon, so how to cope with this??

this is my question. I would like to know do i really need carbon in my canister filter? i change it somewhere between 2-3 months. i was wondering if i can replace it with different media. my h2o parameters are great ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, and nitrate 10ppm. i do weekly h2o changes roughly 1/2 the h20. Just wondering

Carbon is for emergencies only. It will remove tannins or meds, or quickly remove ammonia. Other than that, you should ditch the carbon and add more biomedia.

Never use carbon.I like to over bio my tanks and do alot of water changes.

Only bio filtration can remove the fishy smell ??
And for bio filtration, what is the quantity of bio material(what all materials other than bio balls and ceramic rings can be used?) required in a canister/sump filter for 33 and 75 US gallon tanks respectively??
