I see that some are saying to not use carbon as a filter media. I plan to use 2 Aqua Clear 70's and am trying to determine the best filter media to use in addition to the foam

I use the foam, then some scrubbies and then filter fiber on my ac70. There are also biological packets they sell for them, some people rearrange the order of the media, ive seen some with foam, fiber, then the scrubbies /biomedia

Your options are endless...

I strongly suggest puttin gthe sponge at the top of your AC 110 as opposed to the bottom...

While mechanical filtrtion works best as a final layer of filtration, putting the sponge on top prevents the sponge from floating to the top which in turn lifts other media out of the water, lifts the plastic media tray out of the water, lifts the top off the filter and can sometimes allow the filter to slightly overflow...

My preferred AC110 media set up is a sponge on top & a sponeg on bottom... if carbon, matrix or any other media is desired it works best between the two sponges...

if your going to waste your money on carbon, use seachem purigen. its rechargable and it works wonders.

x2 . . . I put a bag of Purigen on top of the sponge(s) in my ACs . . .

x4 on the purigen dude that stuff is awesome.
What size is your tank?? a 100ml bag of purigen is good for 100g.
The ac500 on my 75g has the sponge and ceramic rings that came with it plus the little 100ml bag.
It worked wonders at clearing up my tank from all the tannins released from the driftwood. I'm not a fan of tea colored water.
