You may be able to. Some of the fish may pick at them, but I don't think any of them would be able to kill one. You could try adding some cheap ghost shrimp and see how they do, If they survive I'm sure the Amano's would.

You could also get another tank and just keep shrimp. I have a 5.5gal cherry shrimp tank and it's probably my favorite tank to watch.

Amano shrimp are pretty robust, so as long as you're not trying to keep them with agressive cichlids, I think they'll do fine. They also add almost nothing to the bio load of a tank, so 6 shrimp is a good number to start with, and if you have lots of plants, and especially some clumps of moss, you may get them to breed.

Amano shrimp breed in freshwater, but the larvae need to be transfered to saltwater to survive. It's a pretty complex process to actually breed amano's.

If you are looking for something that will breed in freshwater you can try cherry red shrimp. They are getting cheaper and they breed more than guppies.

Oh damn, I thought they bred like the neocaridina species (like red cherries).
Still, amanos are a cool shrimp for any planted tank, and don't put up with sh*t from nippy and curious fish like gouramis.
