I was under the impression that they begin in the same place, some travel to america and some travel to europe (these guys spend more time in salt water initially and grow much slower, and have more vertebrae?) But as for care, they are very similar? Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have had the eel for 3 years in a 4 foot tank most of the time and it is still only 6 inches long (looks identical to european/american/common eel) but apparently the males are smaller and take longer to grow too, AND live for around 40 years, so im guessing still a fair bit of growing!
