i want to now the basics for this coral i hear they are easy to care for med-high lighting and med flow. i would like to know food place ment in the tank and if i set up a zoanthid only maybe 10 small fish in a 40 gallon breeder will i need a skimmer?

Zoanthids are the best coral to start off with. they are by far the hardiest of corals and so are mushroom. They could be place any where in the tank really. If all depends if you want do a coral tank or fish tank. With fish i hear you need a skimmer. But with a coral tank you dont really need one. but every one has the opines.

I don't know if I would call them the hardiest. I had my 30 gallon biocube running for 2 months (Meaning fully cycled) and I put a Candy Cane coral and group of Zoas in the tank at the same time. Within a week the Zoas had closed up and then within a month they had died, while 3 months later, the candy cane is splitting and growing amazingly well.

Agreed. Some Zoas are much hardier than others but you can't always bank on them not dying

my freind had the same thing happen to him but then he cut down the flow and the zoa did a full 180 and like took the tank over

The sad thing is, I didn't have very much flow going over them at the time. I had powerhead blowing into the glass across from it, meaning it was getting a little indirect flow.

that odd :/ maybe just a bad/stressed/old coral lol

A lot of people say zoanthids are a good beginner coral, but i disagree. They are very finnicky, some like more flow and light then others, etc...

And they can close up for days for no particular reason. They are also prone to many predators and one extremely annoying disease called zoapox, which springs up out of no where and is a PITA to cure.
