i agree, i would say Florida gar...especially in comparison/relation to what has been showing up at the stores these days. that fish has a great pattern! a lot of gars are coming in labeled alligator gars, but most of these (for better or worse...better for the fishkeeper who doesnt know what they're getting into, worse for the fishkeeper actually looking for gators) are just about all Florida gars.--

but honestly if you actually are educated and did youre homework on a gator gar and still want one shouldnt you at least know what one looks like? when you see a gator gar in person not just in a pick to me it is painfully obvious that its a gator and not a florida or spotted. dont get me wrong you seem very educated on gar. this is just a general statement.

and that is a beautiful florida!

this is definitely true...one SHOULD do their homework before getting into keeping ANY gar (or any fish for that matter). one of the big problems aside from the buyer not being prepared in advance, is that the SELLERS are improperly ID'ing their fishes as well.

i wouldn't expect everyone to be able to tell the difference or spend the time with it, but really, if you are going to be making money off the fish, you should be selling the species you are advertising and the buyer should get the species they pay for. this definitely has been a problem with gar species in pet stores and online sellers. and with access to online fish forums and reputable ID photos, these mistakes really shouldnt be made (or at least should be later corrected) these days--
