Anybody use this sand in their tank? It says it's safe for freshwater... does it have silica in it? What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks ;)

Looks too fine. meaning it can easily float all over when stirred and gonna be a pain to do vacumming.
I just got myself white pool filter sand for $11.00 for a 50lb bag. The pool filter sand is of the highest quality all are rated at 20grade (thich/heavy). I tried doing gravel vacs with pressure from faucet on and the sand wont even suck in like regular sands.
Highly recommended. I'll be doing the rest of my tanks eventually.

I have the tahitian moon black sand from them and it brought my ph from 7.0 to 7.4. It is a nightbmare to clean and get all of the floaters out but work on it and it will be fine. I rinsed over 300 pounds. When you vaccuum it is easier than you think, you just have to hover over the sand a little to suck up the poop, nbut I was worried about poop getting burried. Also this sand is now in a brackich tank and it holds no ph buffering. Go figure.

you just convinced me to get pool filter sand. i hope i can a place that sells it.

Thanks for the replies everybody! :)

sichlid-holic, which pool sand did you go with? I was thinking of getting 3M's Colorquartz crystals.

I have set up tanks with the white super natural at the store. It was a pain to clean. Sucked a ton of it out every time I did a water change and always had to add more. I really like sand blasting sand. It is the same sand in most of my tanks It is really easy to clean when you siphon. Oh yeah and it is almost completly clean rihgt out of the bag.:cool-1: Oh yeah I have also used the black super natural it is much larger grains than the white!

I started to buy that same sand for one of my tanks.I ended up buying pool filter sand instead just because of price($5/50lb-home depot). From what everyone is saying i made the right decision.but I'm gonna use the black sand(tahitian) for a 15g I'm in the process of putting together.

I got mine at Leslies pool supplies. Make sure you get the right kind. In my area there are 2 different types, pick the one that says 20 grade, the other one is like flat and dusty, almost powdery type sand. The one I got is almost looks golden white (like a baby chicks food granules) and all the sand particles are at the same grade and thickness.
When I get a chance, Ill take a pic of the bag and the tank itself with pool filter sand in it(150gallon bow front).
The bag itself says Leslies pool supplies - 20grade pool filter sand. It might be a generic type sand, but not sure.
Very sharp looking, my wife wants me to do all my tanks with this sand.:cool-1:

My fiance just got done talking with one of our good friends that owns a hot tub and pool store and we can get 50 lbs of this white pool filter sand for about $7 a bag. He said that he has to tear down a pool with about 8,000 lbs of pool filter sand, but the only problem with that is that it has been exposed to chlorine and that would kill my fish. I cant wait to switch from gravel to sand here in the next couple of weeks.

You definitely don't want to use used sand if it came from a pool.If I'm misunderstanding your post then disregard this and consider me retarded.
