I have a 125g with 7 3in baby caribes in it and am thinking of adding a 4-5 in piriya to my tank I was winding if that could work or will the caribe kill it? I tried adding some small reds but they killed them there small but very aggressive. I really want a ports in that shoal I was ordering today from aquascape.

Did you only add one red belly? If you're wanting to do a mixed shoal at that size, i'd truely mix it up and not just one fish that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Piranhas are too unpredictable though, we can't tell you for sure your cariba will kill it but i think you'd have a better chance of survival if you divided the species more evenly

I added new fish to existing shoal many times before, never had problem but you need to do it right other wise the chance of loosing the new fish will be much greater.
feed the caribes before you add the new fish then follow with a water change with cooler temperature, scare the crap out of your caribes with a net then add new fish; scared the crap out of them all together and once every one settle down they will be good buddies. this approach had worked for me many times, may work for you, may not work for you. you'll have to try it out yourself.
do you have any plans to upgrade the tank in the future? with the fish you have and will be getting I would suggest at least a 180g in the long run and over filter.

I added 8 reds but they where small about 2in my caribe are at 3 maybe 4 all was fine then they killed 3 so I removed the rest into another tank.the piryas are pretty expensive so I just wanted to add 1 so ththis is a bad idea?

Try what JP suggested. He's given that advice to many people on here and almost all of them have said it was a success.

Side note: do you have an upgrade plan in place? You were really reaching for the fences when you were attempting 15 in a 125.

i think im gonna just keep my 7 caribe in the 125 and probly grow out the reds and sell them aquascape has sold out of piryas.

If you decide to do it, I have gone as far as removing all existing fish then moving any decor then add old and new fish together.

Scaring them with a net will accomplish the same thing with less stress

Ok I have got the piraya he's 3in I removed all fish to a bucket piraya also then added them back one at a time.they where all fine swimming together then they started chasing him now he just hides in top corner of tank he will not swim around or they chase him.and he will not go down to eat with them I think trying to add this fish was a bad. Idea and there prolly going to pick him off tonight I wish now I just got more caribes he's gonna hide all the time like a rhom and not eat I bet. And I don't have any more tanks to move him to this sucks

Hahaha, i tried to warn you man. Fish aren't as stupid as we make them out to be though (taking them out and in) Did you try JP's suggestion? Did you redo the decor? Both of those things will help. maybe add some of those red bellies in too? it's not often that i see mixed shoals at the size you're talking with just one random fish that sticks out like a sore thumb
