Sand isnt live, but contains a biological "boaster". I assume they meant booster.
That being said, no bagged sand is live, it just has crap in it that cycles your tank for you.
I wouldnt recommend any of those substrates for SW. Some people have tahitian moon sand in their tanks, I have had problems with it though.
None of those substrates will offer buffering either.

thanks. i know its not "live" sand. i just wanted to know why they said its ideal for freshwater, but nothing about salt. i just got this sand because it has a larger grain size and im tired of having to add more and more sand in my other tanks because it siphons it all out. if im not mistaken fleshy, you also have a 75 sw tank. can you post some pics. ive looked but cant find any of yours. i might be keeping in contact with you throughout this build. thanks again
all u need is some dry aragonite sand or crushed coral. your choice. i used about 15 lbs of caribsea ocean direct sand. it pretty good not to small of a grain size. my 28gal cycled in about 2 weeks with it. im not sure if it help speed up the cycle or not.
if your only doing a small tank without a deepsand bed its not expensive. mine only cost about $20. and i used the leftover sand for a 1" sandbed in my fuge.

so ive decided that instead of buying the base rock, ive been reading up online on how to make your own out of aragonite sand and portland cement. really cool stuff, and i can make my own shapes and designs to my liking.
