OK so my boy friend got this snail from petco and it was labeled albino mystery snail, which I'm assuming is a made up name cause they tend to do that. i have no idea what this thing is and cant find any information on it.

it is about an inch and a half, it has a deep purple/black shell and the skin of an apple snail. it was brought home in the same bag a two small danios and only one danio was in the bag when we got back. this snail is crazy it has a really big long tentacle that comes out of one side and he uses it to drab the little danios out of the water as they swim by, we freaked out and put him in an empty two gallon that is set up an waiting for a Betta.

any body know of any fresh water carnivorous snails, or know what this one could be?

or is it just a wierd kind of apple snail, i didn't think apple snails were meat eaters though. what ever it is its probly going back to the store.

Mystery Snail Care and Feeding

Pomacea bridgesii

Aquarium Snails eat a large variety of foods including:

* algae wafers
* koi pellets
* shrimp pellets
* cichlid food
* fruits
* vegetables
* snail biscuits I feed these to my snails daily.

It is a myth that snails can survive on algae alone, they must be fed a variety of foods daily.

A favorite is french cut green beans.

All veggies should be precooked and soft.

Temp:
Tank temperature can range from 74-80, the lower the temperature the longer the
life span. The higher the temp, the more they will reproduce.

P. H.:
7.6 or above, less than that and you will get weak shells and erosion.

Breeding:
Breeding begins when the snails are about 1", it requires a male and a
female unlike some other species of snail.

These snails lay their eggs above the water line, if they are not wanted simply
remove the egg clutch from the glass.

If you do want them leave them alone and they hatch in about 2 weeks. You may email me for more information on this.

Calcium:
An easy way to make sure there is enough calcium is to add it in liquid form.

Kent's Marine Calcium is perfect, use half the dosing for freshwater tanks.

Crushed coral is also perfect for shell growth and stabilizes P. H. levels, simply add a small amount to a media bag and place it in your filter.

Substrate:The perfect substrate in my opinion is a mixture of crushed coral and aragonite sand.

I think oddball cleared it up well.. once again, we are fortunate to have you here oddball. when you CBF googl'ing trust oddball!

Sounds like a cool snail to me. I have an apple snail that eats all kinds of strange things but I think he'd be too slow to catch fish.

From what I've read mystery snails are omnivores

hey all

i had something similar to your mystery snail before. i had bought it and placed it in a tank that had a rather large pleco in it. i started to notice that the fins of the pleco where getting tattered and had holes in them. i also noticed that the snail was spending some time on the pleco when he was dormant. so i removed the snail and low and behold, the fins were fine after that.

never really figured out what kind of snail he was, thanks for the info.

are you sure that a fish didnt die in the bag and he got hungry?the long tentacle thing sounds like the their snorkel things that ive actually only seen them use in my pond,not in a tank.
