Hey guys/gals
Can someone explain to me some stuff about carpet pythons:

1) Is there a such thing as a "normal" carpet python? Post a pic of one if so...
2) Are Jaguars, Jungles, Coastals, Irian Jayas, and Tigers morphs or localities?
3) What do breeders mean when they say "sibling"?
4) Are bredli and diamond pythons also carpets?
5) Are centalian pythons the same as bredlis?

If you can just explain to me which ones are morphs and which ones are localities that would be awesome. And if for example a Jaguar was a morph, is it a morph of a jungle or something or a morph of the "normal carpet python" I can't find any info/pics on.

I don't know why this is driving me crazy but this is driving me crazy.

If someone could help me understand this it would awesome.

Nice pastel btw!

What? lol

yes there are normal carpets however there are many subspecies. ALL Carpet pythons are Morelia spilota but theres a number of different subspecies which include: coastals (the largest), jungles, Irian Jaya, inlands, southerns, northern, diamonds, possibly more....

Morphs are things like tigers, zebras, high yellows, and jaguars. some morphs might be specific to localities but can of course be out-crossed, not positive on that though.

To my understanding.... A sibling is an animal that came from the same clutch as another particularly nice animal so it's genes have the same potential. Like... if one clutch produces a smoking gorgeous jaguar and in that same clutch there is a plain lookin normal that normal is the jag sibling.

Diamond carpets are indeed carpet pythons (Morelia spilota spilota) however bredli's are not(sometimes)... There is some controversy over this and some places classify them as Morelia spilota bredli and others have them as a seperate species all together Morelia bredli. Bredli's are the same as centralian pythons though

and as to jaguars... most of them seem to jungles or irian jayas... IJ jags tend to be nicer but thats opinion really.

For anything else related to morelia....this is THE place to go

Thanks a lot!!

Sylvias pretty much nailed it. They are all localities and sibling is from the same parents. bredli's are a different species but they are under the Morelia genus still and are commonly called centralian pythons or central carpet pythons.

nice timing, i've been having some of the same questions..
i may be getting a 5' male carpet python soon, not sure on the morph/subspecies/whatever, but he's real nice looking. if i had to guess, i'd say he's either some cobination of morphs, or a jungle x irian jaya hybrid, but not sure..

post pics man :D lets see
Unless you are positive of the locality i would avoid naming it as any single one... it is easier to tell localities in carpets than some other snakes but still... never a garauntee
